Trailer Mechanics are responsible for performing repair and maintenance work on trailers, chassis, vans and other equipment.

 

 The Ideal Trailer Mechanics Will:

  • Have 3+ years experience repairing trailers and chassis components.
  • Have experience completing preventive maintenance such as, brake inspections, lighting, wiring, tire rotation and changes, and wheel balancing.
  • Have experience performing welding and fabrication to complete repairs.
  • Perform inspections to all trailers in the fleet.
  • Conducts diagnostic evaluations identifying appropriate repair work and necessary parts needed for repair.
  • Be responsible for ensuring that all maintenance and repairs are completed in compliance with safety and quality standards and in accordance with DOT requirements.
  • Be responsible for completing work orders, and ensuring that all documentation is completed accurately.
  • Perform all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Communicate positively with co-workers and superiors.
  • Have some supervisory/ lead technician experience (preferred but not required).

 

Mechanics must have their own tools and a valid driver's license.

 

The successful Trailer Mechanic will be subject to pre-employment background checks.

Technicians will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of construction and forestry based heavy equipment and the respective attachments. Field Service Technicians will acquire a company cell phone, lap top and service truck.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently and effectively evaluate the working condition of, diagnose, assemble/disassemble, order parts for, and repair heavy duty equipment
  • Use secondary materials and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Use related instruments, hand and power tools, secondary equipment, and computer systems
  • Accurately and completely document on work orders all machine information, actions taken, and time taken
  • Continually assess service task hazards and ensure work is performed safely, and to accepted standards           
  • Use computer applications and information systems (i.e. John Deere Service Advisor) to document maintenance, inspection, and diagnosis
  • Use parts catalogues to locate parts, and order parts from parts personnel
  • Road test equipment and check attachment operation as required

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous mechanical experience in a heavy equipment environment
  • (Heavy Equipment Construction, Forestry, possibly agricultural equipment experience)
  • 5 + years of experience
  • Previous field tech experience
  • Forestry experience an asset
  • Certified Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
  • Committed to customer service and service excellence
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with customers, the service team and other branch personnel
  • A recent driver abstract will be required
