Welcome to Mechanic Hub.

As to your problem, was this two cylinders breaking on one machine or two different machines with similar damage?

If it was two cylinders on one machine, I would be looking for twisted boom, twisted mounting pins or similar problems that causes the rod to flex.

If it was two different machines, you are correct to look to the manufacturer for fixes, maybe bad supplier parts.

Hi Jim, thanks. :)

These problem happen in two difference machines under 5500 hours meter. No shock load, no bushing worn out, we lost the warranty because out of warranty policy.

Untill now no failure analysis from our supplier or improvement information. I think I will check the attachment twist.

Hey Michael, if i could put my two cents worth of info in. I work at a Doosan dealer and have never seen this on any of the DX models that we have sold. Are the serial numbers of the two units close? was it both the same side? (left boom). if you give me the serial numbers and hours i could enter them in a thing called Calltrac (Doosan dealer portal info system). Then i could ask what they thought or if they had a bad run of cylinders. it looks like it broke just beneath the weld for the eye. Was the rod bent at all or just broke off?

Hi Sonny. Thanks.

Sorry I gave wrong information before. Actually wrong information from field. After I check detail hystorical problem. These problem happen 2 times in same machine but on different side.

First problem

01 April 2012, rod RH cylinder boom broken. Hours meter : 3278

Second problem

19 September 2012, rod LH cylinder boom broken. Hours meter : 5395

Machine serial number : DHKCEBACSB0008365. Yes it broke beneath the weld for the eye, no bent, it just broke off. After we check the rod broken surface, seen rod dowel very short, it not deep get in to rod head hole. Please see the attachment (Photo).

Preston sales and service in Sundridge Ontario Canada. we are a Case CE dealer and a Doosan dealer we also repair trade ins and re-sell,buy units and repair and sell/rent, we used to be a Franklin skidder dealer as well but they closed the doors a while back which was to bad as we sold quite a few specialized units to exploration drillers. well i hope after we input the pressures and use of your unit they have some sort of resoultion or next step for ya!

Sonny. Thanks.

This machine mainly use for coal loader, sometimes general work but not for impact hammer. Okey after we check the up and down limit hydraulic boom relief pressure we will inform it to you. :)

Michael;

Doosan got back to me after they talked to everybody and there brother about your cylinder mishap. They claim your pressures are fine and that it must of been a freak or one off incident as they have had no other reports of this happening. How is the machine now? Maybe you can ask your dealer for some goodwill help with the cost of the parts. Sorry i could not be of more help in this matter.

Before you get to that definition, I think there is always a possibility of a rough operator. Watch his operating characteristics: jerkiness, hitting the boom down, pushing sideways with the boom.
