New to this site and looking for a little help on diagnosing a problem with new stop arm motors burning out. I replaced a stop arm motor because it was seized and came to the conclusion that it seized because it wasnt turning off when its susposed to. I replaced this motor with a new one, well the stop sign closes when I put power to it with the key off but why doesnt the motor stop when it reaches the side of the bus? I also replaced the elec module that senses position of the motor and it makes no difference. All power is there, grounds are good, the 8-way switch on steering wheel works, Just motor stays on and will not quit until it burns out. Any advice or helpful hints would be really apretiated.

Newer maxxforce 7 IC bus.

Hello and welcome to the site. What type of stop arm system is your bus using? We use SMC (Simplicity). I will assume you have a newer model (that you don't have a cam and adjustable limit switches on the cam)and recommend that you review the wiring diagrams. I would concentrate on locating the open and close relays (most likely in your side elctrical panel) for the stop paddle. Based on your description it sounds like your close relay may be sticking on or intermittently sticking on causing the motor to run continuously in the closed position.

Why call Peterson Cat at $120/hr when you can probably fix it yourself?
