Hello,

I have put together a general questionnaire for diesel mechanics. I work in the field of emission testing but my company is looking to expand. We are looking to create products that will make life easier for mechanics and technicians, specifically within the realm of diesel. Attached is a PDF of the questionnaire. If anyone would be so kind as to take a look at this and provide feedback, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

This sounds like a good idea. But I am not sure if you will be sucessful at this. Most Diesel engine mnufacturers have a pretty tight grip on their troubleshooting tools and software. Most companies require the techs to be certified and trained and only then will they sell you the tools and software you need and still charge you a lot of money for it.For a independent mechanic its pretty much impossible to work on a lot of the new stuff. This seems to be less of a problem in the automotive industrie. I remember hearing that there was a court ruling that allows the aftermarket to develop some of these tools. This does not seem the case in the diesel industry.

I work on CNH engines and some Cummins. Insite is a good tool for troubleshooting. It has very detailed trouble shooting trees and tech tips. Its just a bit slow. Easy tool for CNH engines is pretty poor. No troubleshooting.
