Heavy Equipment and Truck & Coach Program Summary:
The Truck and Coach / Heavy Duty Equipment Technician program is designed to allow students to pursue a career as a Truck and Coach or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician. Students graduating from this program will receive a Two-Year Technician Diploma. This will give graduates a tremendous advantage when applying for an apprenticeship in the Truck and Coach, Heavy Equipment, Farm Equipment, or Powered Lift Truck industries. The graduate will be prepared with strong fundamentals in repairing and maintaining all types of equipment.
Our first year of the program provides introductory basics in: trade practices, engine technology including complete overhaul and repair procedures, and repair of drive train related components. The students spend much of their time in a hands-on mode in the shop. The second year is designed to provide greater depth in skills required to diagnose and repair fuel injection systems, electrical and electronic systems, air conditioning, braking and vehicle retarding systems, as well as hydraulic and hydrostatic circuits. The classroom, labs and shop offer 15,000 square feet of area, with numerous hydraulic and drive train components, a wide variety of diesel engines and heavy equipment, two modern highway tractors and flat bed trailer, and a compound that stores a variety of mining, construction and forestry equipment. Four powered lift trucks do our heavy lifting.
Apprentices registered in the Truck and Coach Technician and Heavy Duty Equipment Technician trade are scheduled for three eight-week sections of in-school training which is scheduled through the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities.
