China Replaces USA As World’s Biggest Car Market

China has now surpassed the United States as the world’s biggest automotive market with more than 6 million units sold in the first half of 2009.

According to the official Xinhua news agency (quoted by Nikkei news service), new-car sales in China “jumped 17.7% year on year to a record 6.09 million units, hitting 6 million for the first time in a first half.”
