Diesel Mechanic in , Raleigh, NC

The diesel mechanic performs maintenance, inspections, diagnoses, and repairs on commercial fleet vehicles both mobile and in shop.

 

Responsibilities:

Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services.

Performs inspection, diagnosis, and repairs of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles.

Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, and replace parts and components as identified.

Utilizes diagnostic software to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.

Use tablet loaded with shop software to list parts and update comments on work orders/task lists including diagnostic programs for engines and hydraulic systems, OEM, and brake systems.

Prepares and maintains accurate records of services and repairs.

Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns.

Conducts safety inspections on vehicles.

Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work by established safety procedures.

Maintains work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows safety regulations.

Demonstrates dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs.

Effectively communicates with co-workers and customers in a positive manner.

Any other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

 

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years’ experience with basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, mechanical and electronic engines.

Ability to lift to 50 lbs.

Must be able to stand for significant lengths of time in an industrial environment with exposure to all elements of weather.

Capable of performing a wide range of physical activities which include pulling, pushing, reaching, bending, climbing, lying and kneeling. Driving mobile service truck from customer to customer is required, up to two hours of continuous driving may be required.

Proficient in reading and understanding technical documents, diagrams, safety manual and service manuals.

Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail to find the root cause for equipment failures.

Ability to work overtime as necessary outside of normally scheduled shifts as scheduled on rotating weekend basis.

Valid driver’s license (required), CDL (preferred)

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required.

Pre-employment background check and drug screening required.

Shifts

  • Typical shift is M-F 7:30am-4pm.
  • One Saturday a month, at overtime rate over 40 hours (1.5x)

Compensation

  • $27-$35/hr to start, based on experience. Annual review with merit increases. + bonus opportunities!
