Job Description

A well-established and forward-thinking civil construction contractor near Raleigh, NC is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the complete lifecycle management of a modern fleet of heavy equipment, on-road trucks, trailers, and support vehicles. This is a strategic, non-mechanic, non-dispatch role focused on cost control, technology implementation, and maximizing equipment availability and ROI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full ownership of equipment lifecycle: acquisition specifications, maintenance planning, repair-vs-replace decisions, and disposal/replacement strategy
  • Design and enforce preventative maintenance and repair programs (in-house techs + vendor network) targeting 90%+ uptime
  • Implement and manage cutting-edge fleet/equipment management software, telematics, GPS tracking, fuel management systems, and digital inspection tools
  • Track and report on all key metrics: total cost of ownership, utilization, downtime, maintenance costs, and residual values
  • Lead annual capital planning and equipment specification process
  • Ensure compliance with DOT/FMCSA, OSHA, and environmental regulations
  • Oversee parts inventory, warranty recovery, vendor contracts, and asset records

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of progressive fleet/equipment management experience in construction, rental, mining, or similar heavy-equipment environment
  • Advanced proficiency with modern fleet management platforms (Fleetio, HCSS Equipment360, B2W, AssetWorks, Teletrac, etc.) and telematics systems
  • Previous experience handling operating budgets and P&L reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills with extensive experience in Excel/dashboard reporting
  • Excellent vendor negotiation and communication skills

Preferred Certifications (strong advantage)

  • AEMP Certified Equipment Manager (CEM)
  • AEMP Certified Equipment Specialist – Professional (CESP)
  • CAFM, CPT, or similar fleet credentials

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $120,000 - $125,000/year
  • Annual performance bonus
