
Field Service Mechanic
Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of heavy equipment in a field and shop environment.
- Operate a take-home service truck and travel to job sites as needed.
- Use diagnostic software and tools for troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance and identify additional equipment issues during inspections.
- Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Follow all safety policies and report incidents; wear required PPE at all times.
- Maintain company tools, property, and maintenance records using software.
- Support other tasks or repairs as assigned, including welding if qualified.
Qualifications:

Required:
- 5+ years of experience working on heavy equipment (Caterpillar, Cummins, Mack, John Deere).
- Advanced mechanical and diagnostic skills; own tools required.
- Proficient with OEM diagnostic software (John Deere, CAT, Cummins); additional tools like JPro or Snap-On are a plus.
- Ability to read schematics and understand troubleshooting procedures.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; able to travel and stay overnight when needed.
- Strong communication skills and computer proficiency.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor/indoor environments.

- Welding experience, ASE or DOT certifications.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Shifts
- Day Shift, Monday to Friday
- Regular overtime (40 – 72 hours per week)
- Weekends as needed
- No on-call emergency rotation
- Year-round work
- Travel Expectations:
- Travel is primarily within Texas, up to five hours from the shop.
- Overnight stays are rare; typically 1 to 3 times per year, for up to 3 nights each trip.
Compensation

$35/hr – $45/hr (based on experience and skill level).
