Shop Manager/Diesel Mechanic
Job Description
We are looking for a Shop Manager with experience as a Class 8 Heavy Truck Diesel Mechanic in Columbia, SC to lead a team in maintaining and repairing Class 8 diesel trucks and tank trailers. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance and thorough inspections on heavy trucks and related equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues with an emphasis on quality and safety.
- Manage inventory of materials and supplies, ensuring availability for operations.
- Oversee and evaluate work performed by both in-house mechanics and external contractors.
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to troubleshoot issues.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, specifically with Class 8 heavy trucks.
- Expertise in Cummins, Detroit, and Caterpillar engine systems is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing a team in a shop environment.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- High school diploma or equivalent; further certification in Diesel Mechanics or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong commitment to adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Pre-employment criminal background check required.
Additional Qualifications:
- ASE Certifications in heavy truck repair are a plus.
- Experience with tank trailers is advantageous.
- Good communication skills to interact with team members and report to management.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and work under physically demanding conditions.
Shifts
- Day Shift, 7:00AM – 5:00PM, Monday to Friday.
- Must be willing to work emergency calls/breakdowns that may occur after hours or on weekends.
Compensation
- $25.00 – $40.00/hour, based on previous experience/certifications/training.
