
Diesel Mechanic
Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, powertrains, air/hydraulic brake systems, electrical/computer-controlled components, and chassis
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on trucks, buses, trailers, emergency vehicles, locomotives, and heavy machinery
- Disassemble and reassemble equipment per OEM and safety standards using hand, pneumatic, and lifting tools
- Inspect parts and equipment for wear or defects using calibrated measuring tools
- Fabricate and weld components, repair certified systems, and operate towing/recovery equipment as required
- Order and replace parts, maintain tool inventory, and complete all mandated training and documentation
- Maintain professional communication, adhere to safety policies and SOPs, and support team operations under pressure
Qualifications:

Required:
- 4+ years’ experience as a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic in commercial or governmental settings
- Expertise in diesel engine, powertrain, air/hydraulic brake, electrical, and computer diagnostics
- Valid WA State CDL Class A, clean driver’s abstract, and ability to lift 50 lb
- Complete tool kit for trade and U.S. citizenship
- Pre-employment criminal background checks are required
- Ability to pass drug testing and meet physical/security criteria
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative, safety-focused team environment

- Experience with locomotive or marine diesel systems
- Welding and fabrication proficiency for structural and component repairs
- Familiarity with fire apparatus, bucket trucks, and emergency vehicle systems
