Diesel Truck & Trailer Mechanic
Job Description
A well-established metal recycling operation is hiring a Diesel Truck & Trailer Mechanic in La Grange, NC to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain fleet trucks and trailers. Ideal candidates have diesel repair experience and diagnostic skills. Apply now for a stable, hands-on opportunity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel trucks and trailers by identifying worn, damaged, and malfunctioning parts and systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance, adjustments, alignments, and major repairs on power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulic systems.
- Remove, repair, overhaul, assemble, disassemble, and replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and parts as needed.
- Complete machine shop work and make mechanical adjustments involving bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Use diagnostic equipment, pneumatic tools, welding equipment, hoists, jacks, and other shop tools while following safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records for trucks and trailers.
Requirements
- Required:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of previous experience as a diesel mechanic.
- Experience working with diagnostic computers.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel truck and trailer repair and maintenance.
- Must have your own tools.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and parts regularly.
- Ability to work in awkward positions or cramped spaces.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Shifts
- Day shift, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday
- Overtime available

- Half days on Saturdays as needed, typically during peak spring and summer season
Compensation
- $20.00 – $30.00/hour starting pay based on previous experience, certifications, and training.
- Annual performance bonus.
