Diesel Truck & Trailer Mechanic
Job Description
A well-established metal recycling fleet is hiring a Diesel Truck & Trailer Mechanic in La Grange, NC to maintain, diagnose, and repair trucks and trailers. Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect fleet trucks and trailers, perform diagnostic testing, and identify worn, damaged, or malfunctioning parts and systems.
- Complete preventative maintenance and repairs on powertrain, electrical, fuel, emissions, brake, steering, hydraulic, and air conditioning systems.
- Remove, repair, adjust, overhaul, assemble, and replace major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and related parts.
- Perform mechanical adjustments and alignments involving bearings, gears, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, clutches, and control linkages.
- Use diagnostic tools, pneumatic tools, welding equipment, hoists, jacks, and other shop equipment while following safe work practices.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records for fleet trucks and trailers.
Requirements
- Required:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic.
- Hands-on experience maintaining and repairing diesel trucks and trailers.
- Ability to use diagnostic computers and shop tools to troubleshoot and complete repairs.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel powertrain, electrical, brake, steering, hydraulic, fuel, emissions, and related systems.
- Must provide personal tools.
- Able to lift heavy parts, work in cramped or awkward positions, provide strong customer service, and pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

Shifts
- Day shift, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday
- Overtime available

- Half days on Saturdays as needed, typically during peak spring and summer season
Compensation
- $25.00 – $30.00/hour starting pay based on experience, certifications, and training
- Annual performance bonus
