
Diesel Mechanic
Job Description
A well-established fleet operation in Merton, WI, is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair a range of medium/heavy-duty trucks and forestry equipment. Ideal candidates have strong mechanical and diagnostic experience with diesel vehicles and small equipment. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections and diagnostics on diesel trucks, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
- Conduct repairs and preventive maintenance on vehicles and forestry equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, loaders, and lifts.
- Replace worn or damaged parts (belts, hoses, filters, exhausts, etc.) using quality components.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, labor, and parts using Fleetio fleet management software.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and report any hazards.
- Coordinate vendor-based repairs as needed.
- Communicate with drivers and supervisors to understand vehicle concerns and performance issues.
- Participate in training to stay current with evolving equipment and repair techniques.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license; must obtain CDL within 1 year.
- Enrollment in Wisconsin’s Public Abstract Request System (completed upon hire).
- Proven experience as a diesel or truck mechanic.
- Ability to operate forestry equipment and use diagnostic tools effectively.
- Ability to lift heavy parts and work in outdoor and physically demanding conditions.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Must become First Aid, AED, and CPR certified within 90 days (company-paid).

Preferred:
- Formal education or certification in diesel mechanics or related trade.
- Experience servicing a variety of vehicle makes and models.

- Monday to Friday, full-time (45–50 hours per week)
- Overtime as needed based on workload
Compensation

$32.00 – $41.00/hour ($68,000 – $85,000/year based on experience).
