A national emergency response contractor in Minneapolis, MN, is hiring a Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic to oversee field and shop maintenance for diesel/gas-powered vehicles and construction equipment. Ideal candidates bring strong diagnostic skills and leadership experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronic systems on heavy-duty vehicles and construction equipment.
- Disassemble and reassemble engines, transmissions, and mechanical components as needed.
- Perform test runs to verify repairs and ensure safety and functionality of all equipment.
- Maintain accurate service records, request parts and materials, and ensure proper care of tools and shop equipment.
- Follow written and verbal job orders; complete assignments efficiently.
- Delegate tasks to mechanics, support the Shop Manager, and ensure team productivity and workflow.
- Track mechanic time, assist with operational reporting, and enforce safety procedures and company policies.
- Promote a safety-first environment and ensure OSHA compliance on all work sites.
Requirements:

Required:
- 5+ years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and construction equipment.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness and availability to travel regularly to job sites.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities across mechanical and electrical systems.
- Preferred:

- Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems and electronic component diagnostics.
- Valid CDL Class A or B.
- Formal training or technical certification in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a shop or field setting.
- Skilled in interpreting service manuals and documenting repair work.
- Ability to mentor junior technicians and help drive team efficiency.

Shifts
- Day shift schedule with long hours and frequent overtime.
- Rotating on/off schedule available to accommodate home time needs.

Compensation

$30.00 – $50.00/hr (based on experience, certifications, and training).

$40 per diem for travel days.
