Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain medium- and heavy-duty fleet vehicles, including diesel trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Inspect and service hydraulic, air brake, electrical, steering, cooling, and fuel systems.
  • Troubleshoot drivability and emissions systems on diesel engines.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Modify or retrofit vehicles and equipment as needed to meet operational standards.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
  • Conduct post-repair testing to ensure equipment meets safety and performance standards.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair documentation.
  • Respond to after-hours service calls and emergencies as needed.

 

Requirements

  • Required:

    • 2+ years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles and diesel-powered equipment.
    • Proven ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems and air brake systems.
    • Hands-on experience with diesel engine drivability and emissions troubleshooting.
    • Ability to interpret schematics and technical diagrams.
    • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to pass DOT-regulated drug screening and physical assessment.
    • Willingness to obtain a Class B CDL (manual transmission, air brake endorsement) within 12 months of hire.
    • Availability for emergency on-call work as needed.
    • Capability to lift up to 100 lbs and work in physically demanding environments.
  • Preferred:

    • Prior experience working in a municipal or public works fleet environment.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members and vendors.
    • Familiarity with public sector safety and regulatory standards.

Shifts

  • Full-time, 4×10 night shift position

  • Monday to Thursday, 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM (40-hour workweek, Fridays off)

    • On-site role; all work performed at the fleet facility

    • Must be comfortable with physically demanding tasks and working in varied conditions (outdoors, confined spaces, loud environments, etc.)

Compensation

  • $32.00/hr – $41.00/hr (based on experience)

  • +$1.50/hr shift differential

  • 3.5% pay increase after 6 months (with satisfactory performance)

    • Tool allowance: Up to $550/year + tool replacement coverage
    • 12 hrs vacation accrued per month (frontload option available at hire)
