Job Description

A stable municipal fleet is hiring a 310T Fleet Mechanic in Peterborough to maintain and repair buses, heavy-duty trucks, light-duty vehicles, and public works equipment. Ideal candidates hold a current 310T certificate with hands-on heavy-duty fleet repair experience. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on municipal fleet vehicles and equipment to keep them safe, reliable, and ready for service.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on buses, heavy-duty trucks, light-duty vehicles, and related fleet equipment.
  • Maintain public works equipment including dump trucks, tractors, loaders, graders, snow-removal equipment, construction machinery, and small engines.
  • Inspect, test, and confirm repairs before returning vehicles and equipment to service.
  • Complete work forms, simple reports, and maintenance documentation using basic computer applications.
  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team to support daily fleet repair priorities and essential public works operations.

 

Requirements

  • Required:
    • Current 310T Truck and Coach Service Technician Certificate.
    • Hands-on experience repairing buses, heavy-duty trucks and equipment, and light-duty vehicles.
    • Valid Class G driver’s licence.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to complete work forms, prepare simple reports, and use basic computer applications.
    • Must supply personal hand tools and be able to meet the physical demands of fleet maintenance and repair work.
    • Available to work rotating shifts, including days, afternoons, nights, and weekends as required.
  • Preferred:
    • Automotive Service Technician certification or another related trade certification.
    • Class D driver’s licence with Z endorsement.
    • Welding and body repair experience.

Shifts

  • Rotating shift schedule, Monday to Thursday
  • Approximately 3 months of initial training on day shifts
    • Afternoon shift: 2:00 PM – 12:00 AM
    • Night shift: 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Compensation

  • $43.58/hour
  • Shift premium for eligible shifts
  • $600 annual tool allowance
