Diesel Technician / Mechanic
Job Description
A long-established bus dealership is hiring a Diesel Technician / Mechanic in Plainview, NY to diagnose, maintain, and repair school buses and commercial vehicles. Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and technical issues on school buses and commercial vehicles
- Repair and replace engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC, and related vehicle components
- Complete preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, tire service, inspections, and scheduled repairs
- Use diagnostic tools, software, technical manuals, diagrams, and testing procedures to identify issues and confirm completed repairs
- Maintain accurate repair records, document parts and labor, and help keep tools, equipment, and replacement parts organized
- Coordinate repair priorities with shop leadership and other technicians while following manufacturer, emissions, and safety standards
Requirements
- Required:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 3 years of hands-on automotive, diesel, gasoline, electric vehicle, bus, or commercial vehicle repair experience
- Working knowledge of engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC, and related vehicle systems
- Diagnostic experience using tools, software, technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics to troubleshoot complex vehicle issues
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, safe work habits, and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Able to work underneath vehicles, lift and move parts or equipment, and perform physical repairs in a busy shop environment
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving history

- ASE certifications, CDL, or other relevant vehicle repair credentials

Shifts
- Day shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Overtime opportunities available and paid after 40 hours

- Occasional half-day Saturdays may be required during the peak spring and summer season
Compensation
- $35.00 – $45.00/hour based on experience, certifications, and training
- Overtime paid after 40 hours
