Job Description

Join our team as a Diesel Mechanic in San Francisco, CA, where you will be essential in maintaining and repairing a variety of equipment and vehicles to ensure their safety and optimal operation. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, test, and repair vehicles and heavy landfill equipment, focusing on systems such as powertrains, drivetrains, electrical, steering, braking, exhaust, and suspension.
  • Address issues in refuse vehicles and transfer trailer body systems, including hydraulic, body control, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain and repair processing equipment like balers, conveyors, hoppers, and electric controls.
  • Perform basic fabrication tasks using welding equipment and tools.
  • Manage the ordering and inventory of shop parts, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Complete documentation related to maintenance work efficiently.
  • Provide leadership by guiding and directing the work of other staff members.

 

Requirements:

  • Four years of progressive mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred experience in the waste and recycling industry.
  • Familiarity with DOT Out-of-Service Criteria, CHP B.I.T. Inspections, and DOT compliance audits.
  • Expertise in diesel and/or compressed natural gas engines, heavy equipment mechanical components, and fabrication tools.
  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical controls and motor systems.
  • Awareness of job site health and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • High school diploma or GED; formal mechanical trade school graduation is highly desirable.
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License required within 8 months of hire.

  • Night Shift – Sunday-Thursday: 10pm-6:30am.

Compensation

  • $55 to $62/hr based on experience and qualifications
