Wastewater Mechanic / Industrial Mechanic
Job Description
A major regional wastewater facility is hiring a Wastewater Mechanic / Industrial Mechanic in San Jose, CA to maintain and overhaul power and air systems. Ideal candidates have journey-level mechanical experience and strong troubleshooting skills. Apply now to support critical operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and overhaul large stationary diesel- and spark-ignited engines, generators, gas compressors, gas storage systems, flares, and blowers.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on industrial mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Complete welding, cutting, fabrication, machining, and piping repair or installation as needed.
- Use precision tools and interpret technical manuals and drawings to troubleshoot and complete repairs.
- Operate cranes, rigging equipment, forklifts, manlifts, and other mobile equipment safely.
- Coordinate with other trades and follow required safety procedures in industrial and confined space environments.
Requirements
- Required:
-
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license.
- Mechanic I: 2+ years of journey-level mechanical experience in wastewater, hydraulics, heavy industrial equipment, or large stationary engines/generators; or equivalent experience assisting wastewater mechanics.
- Mechanic II: Journey-level mechanical experience as above and CWEA Plant Mechanical Technologist Grade II certification (or 2 years as a Wastewater Mechanic I).
- Ability to read technical manuals and drawings, use basic computer systems, and work safely in physically demanding industrial environments.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment respiratory physical exam.

- Experience with large stationary engines, generators, compressors, pumps, valves, blowers, and piping systems.
- Familiarity with SCADA, HMI, and CMMS platforms.
- Mechanical trade school training or related technical certifications.

Shifts

Rotating shifts required, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Monday–Friday 8-hour and 4/10 schedules available based on operational needs.
Compensation
-
$42.29 – $57.07/hour based on level and qualifications.
