Job Description

A stable municipal fleet operation is hiring a Heavy Equipment Technician in Sherwood Park, AB to maintain buses, vehicles, and heavy equipment. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain, service, and repair a wide range of municipal vehicles, transit buses, and heavy equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair chassis, body, mechanical, and electronic systems using current diagnostic programs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair work to keep fleet equipment safe, reliable, and service-ready.
  • Complete accurate work orders, repair documentation, and fleet maintenance records.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while supporting team repair priorities and service standards.
  • Provide guidance and direction to apprentices and support their hands-on development.

 

Requirements

  • Required:
    • Licensed Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician with Heavy Duty On-Road or Off-Road experience.
    • Thorough hands-on experience with equipment repair practices, repair procedures, and preventive maintenance.
    • Diagnostic experience with chassis, body, and electronic fleet systems.
    • Basic computer skills and familiarity with fleet management programs.
    • Able to work independently, collaborate with a larger team, and help train apprentices.
    • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence with a 5-year Driver’s Abstract showing fewer than 7 demerits.
    • Ability to obtain Provincial Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program status, complete a satisfactory criminal record check, perform physical labour, and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Preferred:
    • Red Seal certification.
    • Transit or coach bus repair experience, including Nova Bus, Alexander Dennis, or New Flyer.
    • Valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Q endorsement.
    • Automotive repair experience.

Shifts

  • Monday to Friday schedule, 40 hours per week
    • Temporary full-time position up to 13 months
    • Varied shifts, overtime, and on-call rotation may be required
    • On-call availability is 1 week per rotation

Compensation

  • $47.56 – $51.71/hour, based on experience and qualifications
