Case New Holland Technician (CNH) Program Summary:
During each of four years, the CNH Tech Apprentice works approximately nine to ten months at a sponsoring dealership and receives eight weeks of apprenticeship technical training and two weeks of CNH product specific training at Olds College.
Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices will qualify for the following certification:
- Agricultural Equipment Technician Journeyman
- Inter-Provincial Agricultural Equipment Technician Certification
- Case New Holland/Olds College CNH Tech Completion Award
The CNH Tech program is an educational program designed to upgrade the technical competence and professionalism of apprentice agricultural equipment technicians. The program is sponsored by Case New Holland (CNH) Training, Racine Wisconsin; the curriculum has been designed by Alberta Apprenticeship & Industry Training via input from industry representatives, as well as CNH and Olds College. Completion of the program qualifies apprentices for journeyman status as an Agricultural Equipment Technician. Program graduates will also receive a CNH Tech Completion Award conferred by Case New Holland Training and Olds College.
The CNH Tech program can be completed in approximately 48 months. Apprentices work for a dealer and participate in classroom lectures and laboratory experiences at Olds College, related to repair and diagnosis of agricultural equipment. The program consists of training on a wide variety of agricultural machinery with an emphasis on Case IH & New Holland agricultural products. The curriculum is designed so that work experience at the dealership relates, as much as possible, to the specialized course work completed at Olds College. The program requires the student to have a sponsoring Case IH or New Holland dealership.
Pre-Employment Heavy Equipment Technician Program Summary:
If you enjoy maintaining and repairing equipment, you can’t get much bigger than the heavy equipment and off-road industry! Heavy Equipment Technicians typically repair and overhaul engines, mechanical and powershift transmissions, hydraulics, and basic electrical systems on mobile and stationary equipment. This 12 week program will introduce you to the maintenance of a wide variety of equipment including trucks and trailers, off-road, and earthmoving equipment.
Upon successful completion of the pre-employment program, students who meet the apprenticeship requirements for the trade (see www.tradesecrets.org) are eligible to write the first period apprenticeship exam. (There is a fee, payable to Apprenticeship and Industry Training, to write the exam. This fee is in addition to tuition, books and supplies.) CSA approved personal protective equipment is required to complete the practical portion of this program. You may be required to purchase other tools and equipment for your chosen trade.
Agricultural and Heavy Equipment Certificate Program Summary:
If you seek a career in a heavy equipment or agricultural equipment dealership and plan to become a journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician or an Agricultural Equipment Technician, this program is for you. When you complete the certificate program and/or continue into the diploma program, you have the opportunity to write the apprenticeship exams in these two trades. This gives you technical accreditation towards these two trades and a wide range of employment opportunities you then can enter the trade, register as an apprentice and complete the mandatory requirements to gain journeyman certification.

This gives the graduate technical accreditation towards the first two-years of these two trades. The student can then choose to continue on and attain Alberta Journeyman status, completing mandatory on the job training hours as specified by Alberta Apprenticeship and attend technical training for the third and fourth period in their chosen trade.
