Security Tips to Guarantee Your Safety While Driving

While most of us consider ourselves to be safe drivers, the reality is that our roads are a dangerous place. Believe it or not, 77% of traffic accidents are the result of driver error. This means that we probably aren’t as safe as we think when we’re behind the wheel. Motor vehicle crashes are the top cause of death, so we need to find a way to make our roads safer for everyone.

While we all know the basics of driving safety like keeping both hands on the wheel and using wipers the rain, how good are we actually at staying safe while driving? Odds are we can all use some extra tips before we get back in the driver’s seat. Here are some top safety tips to remember while driving.

1. Refresh your road rule knowledge.

It’s probably been a few years since you took your driver’s test. While practical skills are easy to remember, we all forget the specifics when it comes to the law. These driving laws aren’t just for fun. They’re a way to keep people safer on the road. Take some time to review this Driving Guide with key tips for staying safe.

In addition, research the particular laws of your region. Every state has different rules regarding everything from right turns to parking on hills. How well do you know your state’s laws? You might be surprised by that answer.

2. Focus on driving.

It’s easy to get distracted when on the road. With mobile devices more popular than ever, you might accidentally lose focus on what’s in front of you. ALways keep your attention 100% on driving. Your safety is your top priority, not responding to text messages. A great way to keep yourself from temptation while driving is to set your phone to do not disturb or drive mode. This will keep you from getting new messages and alerts.

5. Protect yourself against thieves.

Car theft is a real concern. You can protect yourself by driving safely and being aware. If you notice a car following you, do not drive to your destination. Instead, go to a safe spot like a fire station or a police station. In addition, always be aware before exiting your car. Make sure to park in well-lit, populated areas and to focus on your surroundings. Finally, never leave valuables in your car that could attract criminals.

Staying safe on the road is everyone’s responsibility. If you follow these tips above, you’ll make the world a safer place. As long as you’re an alert, aware driver, you can be confident you’re staying safe.
