Nestled in the beautiful Fraser Valley just east of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is a fully accredited, public university that enrolls approximately 16,000 students per year. UFV has campuses in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Mission, with regional centres in Hope and Agassiz, and a growing presence in Chandigarh, India. In Fall 2007, we began development of a beautiful new 80-acre campus in the Canada Education Park along the historic Vedder River in Chilliwack.
In the 2010 Globe and Mail Canadian University Report, UFV earned the most As and A+s of any public university in the province. UFV was at the top of the list in the small universities category, earning an A grade in the following areas: most satisfied students, quality of education, and teaching. It also earned an A+ in student-faculty interaction (the only A+ given to any public university of UFV’s size or larger in this category nationally), and an A+ in class size.
A teaching university with a focus on excellence, UFV offers more than 100 programs, including two master’s degrees, 15 bachelor’s degrees, majors, minors, and extended minors in more than 30 subject areas, and more than a dozen trades and technology programs. We believe that anyone who wants to go to university should be given a fair chance, so our admission policies are flexible, and we provide university prep courses and high school completion for those who aren’t quite ready. Students can learn in a variety of ways: full-time, part-time, in-class, online, as part of a structured program or one tailored completely to their interests.
Many of our programs “ladder” into one another, allowing students to keep their options open by earning a one-year certificate and/or a two-year diploma on the way to completing a full degree. Others offer a co-operative education option , where students can combine study with supervised, professional, paid, work experience. Our thriving international programming makes for a culturally diverse student community and great opportunities to study abroad . Our continuing studies and academic upgrading offerings make learning a lifelong experience. Many clubs, events, and activities enhance student life on campus and our award-winning Cascades athletics teams are highly competitive.
UFV is committed to providing exceptional post-secondary instruction and a nurturing learning environment for the students of the Fraser Valley and beyond. We are large enough to offer variety yet small enough to offer the personal attention that these students need to thrive. Our small class sizes and focus on teaching allow them get to know their instructors and learn in a hands-on environment. Our emphasis on applied research offers many opportunities for student researchers.
