Paving Equipment Mechanic
Job Description
A thriving team in Chesapeake, VA, as a Paving Equipment Mechanic. This role involves supporting equipment technicians and ensuring the quality and efficiency of repairs. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to equipment technicians and service personnel via phone, email, or directly at the job site.
- Maintain swift and clear communication with field personnel and dispatch to ensure timely and efficient service.
- Uphold high-quality repair standards to minimize repeat work, adhering to all safety and company policies.
- Actively participate in and share knowledge from technical training sessions with team members, aiming for continuous improvement in service quality.
- Collaborate extensively with internal departments, field managers, superintendents, and parts personnel to ensure seamless operations.
- Regularly review and suggest enhancements to shop tools and the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program to increase work efficiency and effectiveness.
- Keep the service truck clean and organized, ensuring all necessary tools are available and in good condition.
- Adhere to hours of service regulations and comply with all Trimble/Telogis requirements.
- Take on additional duties as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the team’s success.
Requirements:
- Minimum 1 year of field experience in repairing heavy construction equipment.
- High school diploma, GED, or trade school education preferred; valid driver’s license essential.
- Comprehensive knowledge of diesel engines, power transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems within heavy construction machinery.
- Proficient in diagnosing issues with modern construction equipment, including hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools from Caterpillar, Volvo, and Cummins; experience in welding is advantageous.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, and to make quick, rational repair decisions.
- Capable of working independently and maintaining safety; open to learning and adapting to new methods and technologies.
- Expected to manage sensitive information confidentially and efficiently handle scheduling and parts ordering.
- Basic proficiency in OXY/Acetylene torch use and Stick Welding (7018,6010) is beneficial.

- Day shift on a flexible schedule – including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- With overtime paid after 40 hours per week!
Compensation
- $28.00 – $34.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
