A long-established metal recycling operation is hiring a Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Field Service in Jacksonville, NC to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment at nearby yards and job sites. Duties & Responsibilities
- Travel directly to recycling yards and job sites in the Jacksonville and Havelock areas, with occasional service at other nearby locations.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy equipment on-site to keep equipment safe, reliable, and operational.
- Service diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related mechanical components.
- Use diagnostic computers, schematics, and testing procedures to identify equipment issues and complete repairs.
- Perform welding and mechanical repairs as needed in field and recycling-yard environments.
- Support repair priorities across multiple locations while following safe work practices.
Requirements
- Required:

- High school diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic.
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and welding.
- Ability to read schematics, use diagnostic computers, and provide personal tools.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Able to lift heavy parts, perform repairs in awkward positions, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.

- Experience repairing recycling, construction, or mining equipment.
- CDL.
- ASE, OEM, or other relevant technical certification.

Shifts
- Day shift, Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Overtime available and paid after 40 hours per week
- Half-day Saturdays as needed
Compensation
- $27.00 – $30.00/hour starting pay based on experience, certifications, and training
