Kenworth
had a truck come into the shop yesterday, a kenworth, driver said it would not move. Had to bee towed back to the shop. Hooked up cummins diagnostics software and got a code for the EGR control valve. Cleared the code, everything worked. Took it out on the road but could not exceed 1500 RPM in low gear. What could be causing this?

If you have an EGR code most likely the EGR is not operating in the right position and the engine is derating. I would pull off the piping and check for soot and ash buildup on the valve. The valve may be coated to the point that it's not able to open and close properly or there is a malfunction on the motor side. We've tried cleaning them and eventually the problem comes back. Replacing the valve totally eliminated the fault.
