The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this week published a recall for 2,386 Freightliner Cascadia tractors due to a problem with the service brakes.

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) said it is recalling certain model year 2015 Freightliner Cascadia, Business Class M2, 108SD, 114SD, 122SD, Coronado, Western Star 4700, and Western Star 4900 trucks manufactured between Oct. 6, 2014, and Feb. 16, 2015, and equipped with Haldex Life Seal brake chambers.

While traveling at highway speeds, the affected vehicles may experience brake drag due to an improperly seated diaphragm in the brake chamber. That brake drag could cause loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

DTNA said it will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake chambers, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 25. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at (8000 745-8000. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL676.

Owners may also contact the NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236, or go to Since 2004, Cascadia brand trucks have experienced approximately 52 recalls.
