Diesel Fleet Mechanic
Job Description
A busy trucking fleet in Kenilworth, NJ is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to keep chassis, container equipment, and gensets road-ready for high-volume port operations. Monday-Friday day shift with pay up to $45.00/hour to start, overtime available, and benefits. Join a weekday fleet shop with steady work.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, and electrical issues across multiple makes and models using diagnostic software and testing equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, including inspections, oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks, to reduce breakdowns and keep equipment in service.
- Inspect power units, chassis, and related equipment to support DOT and Federal Motor Carrier compliance standards.
- Service and repair air brake systems, steering and suspension, cooling systems, fuel systems, drivetrains, and related components.
- Maintain and repair private chassis assets, heavy-load equipment, and gensets used for reefer container operations.
- Accurately document labor hours, parts used, and completed repairs in the company’s maintenance management system.
Requirements
- Required:

- 3+ years of experience as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Technician.
- Strong diagnostic ability and working knowledge of diesel engine components, electrical systems, and brake systems.
- Must have a complete set of standard hand tools required for the trade.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. and work in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Preferred:

- Fleet or dealership experience.
- CDL Class A and Tanker or Hazmat endorsement are a plus.

- Day shift, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Overtime available and paid after 40 hours

Compensation
- $28.00 – $45.00/hour based on experience and certifications.
