A veteran-owned and reputable defense maintenance contractor is hiring a Mobile Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic in Virginia Beach, VA to maintain and repair military vehicles and heavy equipment in the shop and field. Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and advanced repairs on heavy trucks, construction equipment, diesel-powered equipment, and other fleet vehicles.
- Diagnose and repair engines, powertrains, drivetrains, steering, suspension, and brake systems.
- Mount, balance, and replace tires, and perform welding, metalwork, and minor fabrication as needed.
- Provide mobile and field maintenance support, including expeditionary and contingency repairs during periods of increased maintenance demand.
- Use FleetFocus to record labor, parts, and completed repairs, and operate Government vehicles when performing maintenance duties.
- Follow manufacturer and applicable Government maintenance standards to keep vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for use.
Requirements
- Required:

- At least 6 years of hands-on experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic, with a background in an OEM dealership, commercial fleet shop, or military maintenance facility.
- Ability to independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, diesel engines, and related mechanical systems.
- ASE certification in diesel engines plus at least two heavy truck categories, such as brakes, drivetrain, suspension, electrical, HVAC, or preventive maintenance.
- Proficiency with AssetWorks FleetFocus or a similar maintenance management system, with clear verbal and written communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and installation access credentials. Must meet drug-free workforce requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical repairs in shop, motor pool, and field environments, including outdoor work and exposure to noise, fuels, lubricants, and exhaust.
